Hunt in the Trophy Capital of Kansas
Its little wonder that the ring-necked pheasant symbolized hunting tradition in Kansas. Known for size, wariness, and edibility, pheasants occupy much of the state and offer a fine challenge to upland hunters. The color and cackle of a flushing rooster is one of Novembers most exciting outdoor experiences.
The Kansas pheasant harvest may approach a million birds in a good year. Weather and habitat fluctuation cause annual variations, but Kansas consistently ranks among the top three states in pheasant hunting destination. Historically one of the best regions in the the northwest part of the state. For more information about Northwest Kansas go to to

Walk-In Hunting -- One of Kansas Greatest Success Stories
What began as a pilot project in 1995 is now one of Kansas greatest success stories. The Walk-In Hunting Area
(WIHA) program allows public access to state-leased private property. Thanks in part to the responsible behavior of hunters utilizing WIHA properties, the program is embraced by an overwhelming number of landowners. Hunters fund the program through license and equipment purchases.
Many WIHA properties are also enrolled in the Convervation Reserve Program (CRP) and offer great upland bird hunting
opportunites. Other areas include stubble fields bordered by woodlands, providing excellent deer habitat. Each year the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department produces a free atlas detailing WIHA areas across the state. To receive a copy of the atlas call 888-824-4222 or the KDWPs at 316-672-5911 or download a copy off the Internet at
