Goodland Bible Church

--------------------

On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1967, a small group met for a time of prayer and fellowship. Rev. Fred Dietz, then pastor of the Pleasant Home Church north of Edson, announced that he felt God was calling him to start a church in Goodland. All those present expressed a desire and willingness to see such a work started and wanted to be a part of it. A statement of faith was adopted and the meeting closed with prayer. Our statement of faith reads: "We, the members of this organization, do acknowledge the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as being the Word of God and our only infallible guide of faith and practice." Thus the name of Goodland Bible Church came into being.

In time a parsonage was purchased and the Dietz family moved to Goodland. Jim Gee, Max Tedford, and Elmer Purvis were chosen to be trustees, and they along with Pastor Dietz began to get the necessary papers in order.

The first services were held on March 17, 1968 in the Community Room of the Goodland State Bank with 44 people in attendance. Later that month services were moved to the American Legion Building and continued there until August of 1973.

On March 12, 1972 a special fourth anniversary service was held with ground-breaking ceremonies on the newly purchased building site in the Rosewood addition. The first unit of the new building was started in June 1973 and completed in August with Delmer Musil as contractor. In June 1976 construction was started on the sanctuary with the first service being held there in November. A dedication service was held on January 19, 1977.

At the present time our church partially supports 14 missionaries at home and abroad. A number of our young people have gone on to become fulltime pastors or missionaries, teachers in both public and Christian Schools, and in other areas of Christian Service.
