The museum's mission is to collect, preserve and document
historical and cultural artifacts and materials related to and illustrative of Sherman
County. To aid the museum's mission a larger facility is needed. The present
building is seriously out of storage and exhibit space. An Endowment Trust Fund is
in place for the purpose of accepting and administering building funds. The
High Plains Museum Endowment Trust
- Purpose - The purpose of the trust shall be to provide a means whereby interested
persons may make contributions or bequests of money or property to the Trust for the
purpose of accepting and administering gifts or bequests.
- General Nature of Museum Trust - The nature of the Trust shall be to provide a basis on
invested capital, so that the museum may be endowed with a reserve of financial strength
and stability and be thus enabled to adapt to change of circumstance. It is intended
that such capital shall be invested which will allow a source of income which will be
supplemental to usual income.
- Share our Heritage - We are the people of Western Kansas, descendants of the Native
American, the soldier, the homesteader, the farmer, the railroader, the teacher, the
businessman. Our stories, beginning over 100 years ago, are still alive today
through the efforts of the High Plains Museum.
- Use of the Trust - At least annually, the endowment trustees shall distribute the entire
net income of the trust to the museum trustees, for such use, including operating funds or
any use which may otherwise be payable from money received as public revenue, as the
museum trustees may determine in their discretion.
- Trustees - A board of trustees made up of five adult residents of Sherman County shall
administer the affairs of the Trust. One member shall be a member of the Museum
Advisory Board. One member shall be the Goodland City Manager. Three members
shall be representatives from financial institutions, First National Bank, Bankwest and
Western State Bank.
